Emily McLeod, Practicum Student
Hello there! My name is Emily (she/her), and I was born and raised in Winnipeg on Treaty 1 territory.
I’m a registered psychiatric nurse with seven years of experience across acute inpatient psychiatry, emergency mental health, crisis intervention, and dementia care.
In September 2023, I began my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology to build upon my foundation in psychiatric nursing and expand my scope of practice. This allows me to offer even more holistic, integrated care. This training complements my clinical background by deepening my therapeutic skills and broadening the ways I can support individuals in both their emotional and psychological healing as a Practicum Student at Positive Perspectives.
I’m most drawn to work that explores trauma, inner child healing, relational wounds, and unhelpful communication patterns. My approach blends Narrative Therapy, Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems, and Somatic strategies. I aim to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and empowered to reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been silenced.
I feel most energized when exploring the roots of relational patterns — especially navigating unhelpful communication styles, unresolved trauma, or long-standing emotional wounds. I’m particularly drawn to inner child work and helping people understand how their early experiences continue to shape their present day relationships, self-talk, and emotional responses.
Outside of work, I love hiking, reading, and spending time with my husband and our golden retriever, Gretchen — who joins me at my day job for extra tail wags and warmth.
On May 5, I will be available for sessions on Mondays from 12:00–4:00 PM, Thursdays from 3:00–7:00 PM, and Fridays from 12:00–3:00 PM and welcoming folks age 17+.
Sessions can be held in person, virtually, or by phone — whichever feels best for you. I’d be honoured to walk alongside you in your healing journey.
